Our effort to Recall Mayor Blash and Vice Mayor Hellman is based on 4 core issues:
1. Mayor Blash and Vice-Mayor Hellman are unwilling to address the growing homeless encampment crisis at Contratti Park.
Their unwillingness to act is forcing our local little league to play next to a drug riddled encampment.
Their willful neglect of the encampment crisis is polluting our local watershed.
Their lack of action is creating severe fire risk placing our homes and businesses at risk.
Their refusal to address the open and extreme drug use happening at the encampment is negatively impacting community safety and our ability to use the park.
Mayor voted against a camping ban.
They have routinely marginalized the concerns of parents and residents and allowed mentally ill drug users to degrade our quality of life.
They have been dishonest and misleading about the use of tax dollars and services provided to homeless response.
2. Mayor Blash and Vice-Mayor Hellman continually support extreme and unpopular policies that divide our community.
They have routinely supported and pushed extreme policies that have created division and tension in our community. They consistently place their personal beliefs and ideology ahead of the community interest. Examples include the divisive rent control and just cause eviction ordinances that were repealed by over 60% of the voters in 2024 and their support of unpopular high-density housing that will dramatically alter the livability and character of Fairfax.
They were the primary proponents of the extreme and divisive rent control and just cause eviction ordinances.
They refused to listen to overwhelming opposition expressed by Fairfax residents to these extreme policies. Their unwillingness to listen creates division and mistrust.
Their divisive approach caused over 1,500 local voters to sign the petition calling for the repeal of these divisive ordinances.
Their extreme rent control and just cause eviction ordinance was repealed with support from over 60% of voters.
They have supported and voted for extremely unpopular high-density housing that will dramatically alter the livability and character of Fairfax.
Ignored community concerns about the project and labeled opposition as “fear mongering.”
Their support for unpopular high-density housing was done without consideration of safe evacuation routes in the case of fire, earthquakes, and floods leaving our community at severe risk of catastrophic disasters.
3. Mayor Blash and Vice-Mayor Hellman perpetual mismanagement of Fairfax budget and improper use of taxpayer money.
They operate in an irresponsible and reckless manner with regards to spending taxpayer money.
Perpetual mismanagement of Fairfax limited budget resources including wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars with frivolous and irresponsible spending on unnecessary consultants and high legal fees.
Ignored crumbling town infrastructure. Mismanaged funds earmarked for maintenance and repairs leaving Fairfax with the worst roads in Marin County.
Failure to conduct proper oversight of town manager and town attorney led to runaway legal expenses and staffing costs
Wasted tax dollars on legal counsel to deny public records requests.
4. Mayor Blash and Vice-Mayor Hellman operate with a habitual lack of transparency and towards residents with different perspectives on critical issues.
Consistent record of voting for personal beliefs and ideology over the needs of residents.
Regularly restrict free speech at public meetings and engage in bullying tactics such as sending hostile emails and texts.
Wasted valuable tax dollars fighting reasonable public records requests.
Marginalized and dismissed parent concerns relating to the homeless encampments in local parks.
Dishonest communication about services provided to homeless encampment and suppressed information about School Street Plaza development.
Adopted the divisive and extreme rent control and eviction ordinances without conducting meaningful outreach and engagement with all stakeholders.
Disregarded election results by defying the will of the voters to elect a town clerk.
5. Refuse to support an independent audit of town finances. integrity combined with hostility towards different points of view on critical community issues.
They routinely operate without transparency and integrity while acting hostile and dismissive
STOP Extreme Building Heights in Fairfax!
OVER POPULATION: This monstrosity will be a 243 unit building that will ADD approximately 563 more residents and 475 more cars on SFD.
SAFETY: It will not be safe will when a fire rages through Fairfax and 8,000 residents try to escape on Sir Francis Drake. It will be a Death Trap for us all. There is only one road in and one road out for an emergency evacuation.
WATER: During drought years, this extra tall high rise will impact our water supply. The lack of water has not been seriously addressed by our Town Council. The Fairfax/Ross Valley Fire Department will need to purchase at least one new 105 foot ladder firetruck for $2.1 million.
PARKING: These tenants will be parking on our already overcrowded residential streets. There are only 243 parking spaces required for 563 tenants. The developers noted 320 spaces for OFF STREET PARKING.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING: There will be 202 “luxury” market rate apartments and only 41 “low/affordable income” apartments.
SMALL TOWN: Citizens chose to move to this small town after researching our zoning laws to determine Fairfax’s General Plan zoning was safe and a match to the small town they invested money into. People chose to live in Fairfax for its charming, laid back, small town character. This new zoning will urbanize our small town and forever change the face of Fairfax, and all of this without the vote of our citizens.
CITIZEN RIGHTS: Many Fairfax homeowners spent their life savings to own a home in our town. Their decision was made after researching height restriction limits and urban sprawl limits. These new over build height allowances will not only impede views, challenge water resources and create fire escape emergencies…but they also risk the financial future of hundreds of thousands of local residents who were misled financially with their home purchases. The Town Council has acquiesced to the State without a fight. This is a state takeover combined with spineless town council leadership.
